At the movies

This summer Ben has been able to catch a couple of movies at the theater. One he really enjoyed (and saw twice in fact) was SURF'S UP. Going into it I was kind of dreading it. "Not another penguin movie," I thought to myself. But overall I was surprised by it, and found a couple of moments to laugh at. Ben liked it and had fun watching it.

Ben says "Thumbs up!"

And of course we took Ben to see Ratatouille. Ben didn't care for it...and I don't blame him. It's kind of a boring movie. It's just a mouse who cooks in the kitchen. I could tell he was bored by it. Then half way through he kind of got scared and skiddish by the main bad guy...a short little french cook. I guess his face was kind of creepy. Anyway, Ben got a little uncomfortable watching it at times.

So Ben says "Thumbs down!"

A quiet spot

Ben wants to look at books all the time, and sometimes I'll find him in his room reading to himself. Well...I came downstairs with some laundry the other day and I came across this scene in the study. Evidently, Ben figured he should read his book in the room with all the books.

At the zoo

Ben and I went to the Children's zoo in Saginaw last week. He always loves going...even if it's not as great as many city zoos. They have some penguins there, some kangaroos, some monkeys, and other small animals. We're members there, so we go there quite often. Ben always has a good time.

The Fire Hydrant

Everyday Ben likes to ride his new tricycle up and down the sidewalk. Lately he likes to ride to this fire hydrant. I mean ALL THE TIME. Each time we reach the fire hydrant he asks me to tell him how the fire hydrant works. I've explained it to him so many times he could probably write a thesis on the subject.

This hydrant is right in front of the house that sits behind us. The neighbors there are really nice, and they always say hi to Ben when they see him. The dad always says to Ben..."going to check on the fire hydrant again Ben?" or "How's the hydrant today Ben...still works okay?"

A little buggy

Ben has gotten into bugs...specifically hunting for bugs. I got him a couple of bug jars, and we use one of our old fish tank nets. Then we go out in the backyard on "bug hunts." He likes picking them up with his fingers and I've been trying to explain to him that some bugs bite and that he needs to use the net. But for now he's made out okay.

Dancing to Jack Johnson

Ben loves listening to Jack Johnson...especially the songs from the Curious George movie that came out a few years ago. Well, the other day I saw him dancing in the living room to one of Jack Johnson songs and he was trying to dance with Glacier. I grabbed the camera and got this video...

Touch A Truck!

Last week Ben and I went to the library for "Touch-A-Truck" day! They do it every year, but this was our first time. It's basically a day where kids can come to the library parking lot and climb on all sorts of big trucks, tractors, and construction vehicles. They had a trash truck, a fire engine, some farm vehicles, and some city construction vehicles. Ben had a blast.

Ben's friend Parker and his mom Erin joined us for the morning. Ben and Parker had a great time...especially on the fire truck.

Storytime at Dow Gardens

Ben and I have been going to Dow Gardens this summer for their weekly storytimes. It's similar to the storytime at the library, where they sit around and read a story or two. But afterward all the kids go on a scavenger hunt around the children's garden, they get to water as many plants as they want, and they even get to pick any vegetables that might be ripe at the time.

Our new blog!

Hello everyone. Well...here we are at our new blog.

For a while now I've been considering starting up a new blog for Ben, but I never acted on it. I guess I thought his Yahoo blog was good enough. But now we have baby girl on the way and I thought right now would be a perfect time to start the new blog. Ben's old Yahoo blog will still be up, so if you ever want to retrace his first 3 years you're more than welcome to.
