Life At Random

My parents left today to head back home, so here's a look back at our week. Ben got to ring the bell at church last Sunday, the kids got to swim in our neighbor's pool on a hot afternoon, the kids had fun with our new "slip & slide" in the backyard, and of course we were busy with Ben's games.

The Strikers - Game 5

This afternoon was another one of our soccer games, and my parents along with my aunt and uncle came out to watch Ben play. The kids played great defense, and they all worked together to keep the other team out of the goal for most of the game. Week after week the boys continue to show improvement and signs of working together as a team. It's fun to watch them all grow as players. Next week is our last game of the season, and then after that is our team party.

Flower Power!

This morning we spent some time outside planting flowers. In the past it's always been somewhat of a challenge because of the kids, but this morning they showed a genuine interest in helping out. So we got out lots of plants and pots and they got to get their hands dirty.

The Blue Rockets - Game 9

Last Thursday was another baseball game for Ben. This time around he got to play pitcher. Well, actually in our Little League the coaches pitch to their own teams. But Ben got to play the pitcher "position," and fetch all the balls around the mound. He had a lot of action. He even threw a guy out at first, and almost had another one. Anyway, here are some highlights.

Dow Night at the Loons Stadium

Jenny's Human Resources department at Dow held a "Loons Night" last night at the game. So after Ben and I finished with his baseball game we drove over to the Loons game and joined Jenny and Megan. It was a perfect evening weather wise. Megan even kissed Lou E. Loon on the beak this time. That was a first. She's usually terrified of him.

The Blue Rockets - Game 8

Our baseball season is winding down to a close. There's only a few more games left, and since my parents are in town they wanted to be sure to catch a few of Ben's games this week before the season ends. Last night Ben got to play first base for an inning, which kept him on his toes. He also went 2 for 3 at the plate, and he had a play or two in the outfield. He enjoyed playing in front of Grandma and Grandpa I think.

Riding To School

Once a week Ben and Miles get together and ride their bikes to school in the morning. They both love it, and you can tell they both get a sense of accomplishment out of it. Anyway, I had to get some pictures. It's pretty cute to watch them ride with their backpacks swinging on their backs. I ride along side them and Megan rides in the bike trailer. All the kids really enjoy it.

Happy Memorial Day!

On Monday all of us drove over to my Aunt and Uncle's house for a cookout. Some of my extended family from down in Detroit came up for the day so we all got to catch up. Megan got some reading time with Great Grandma, and Ben got to play outside with Uncle Doug. Doug is involved in a Scottish Bagpipe band here in town, and his group helps put on a "Highland Festival" every summer. This year's festival is coming up in a few weeks, and Doug was showing us his new "Kid-size caber" for the Caber Toss. Also, Ben caught a toad. I was joking that he should kiss it and I'll get a picture. I'm sorry to say he didn't exactly get the joke and he actually kissed it. Yech! He thought that was pretty funny.

Cub Scouts

About a week ago we signed Ben up for Cub Scouts. He officially starts in the fall when 1st grade begins, but the Cubmaster (whose 2 sons are also on Ben's baseball team) told me he would be eligible to participate this summer as well if we signed him up now. So Ben is officially a Cub Scout now. He's already got his handbook, and he's looking forward to participating in some scout hikes this summer. I'm looking forward to participating in this new adventure as well. Should be fun!
