Our second day in Berlin was a rainy one, so we spent a lot of our time doing indoor things. We started off the day with a visit to the "DDR Museum." Back in the days of the Cold War the East German government was called the "Deutsche Democratic Republic" (otherwise known as the GDR, or German Democratic Republic.) The museum allows you to step back in time and see what life was like in East Germany. Inside there is a recreation of an East German living room and bathroom, a couple of East German cars and motor bikes, and of course lots of exhibits about the government, the military, and the Stasi (the secret police.) Think "basic" and "minimalistic." The museum is small, but very interesting, and a lot of fun. The kids actually had a great time and seemed very interested. We c
apped the day off with a "Blue Man Group" show. It was awesome. The kids loved it.
The top of "Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church." The church was badly damaged in a bombing raid in 1943, and the damaged spire has never been reattached.

An old East German living room, complete with TV programming.
Here's Megan practicing listening in on phone calls for the Stasi.
An old East German apartment building.
Megan brought her "Build-A-Bear" on the trip with us. "Mrs. Fluffers" has to go everywhere with us. Even on the subway.
The "Gendarmenmarkt" at night. The square across the street from our hotel.
