Last week the kids had their annual "Winter Break" from school. We drove over to Austria to spend some time skiing and touring some of the area. Of all the countries we've visited here in Europe, Austria has been one of those countries we've hardly seen. Up til now the only time we've spent in Austria is literally passing through the western-most section on our way to Germany. So we decided to change that.
We began our tour with a stop in Innsbruck. The city sits in the Inn valley in the western side of the country. Innsbruck means "bridge over the Inn" which is the river that runs through the town. Innsbruck hosted the Winter Olympics in both 1964 and 1976, so the area is a hotbed for winter sports. We only spent a night there, but we did manage to see a little bit of the old town area and the river. The town has some great scenery, as it is nestled at the bottom of a mountainous valley.
