Muttertag In Zurich

Happy Mother's Day everyone!  Or as they say here..."Alles Gute sum Muttertag."

For Jenny's special day we all took the train downtown and walked around the old section of town.  This is probably the most scenic section of Zurich I've seen so far.  You have the Limmat river, you can see the lake and hills, and you get a great view of the 3 iconic churches that encompass the skyline.  It's a beautiful area.

We walked along the river toward the "Grossmunster," which is the most famous church in Zurich (with its twin towers.)  Supposedly the church was first commissioned in 1100 by Charlemagne himself.  If you look at the pictures below you can see the two other well known churches.  The "brown clock tower" is "St. Peter's Church," and the teal one is "Fraumunster."

Anyway, we circled back through an older section of town, down a nice street with wall to wall restaurants and stores.  We had a nice lunch and enjoyed the atmosphere.  I have to admit...it's pretty fun hopping on the train and going into town for a quick bite to eat.  Hopefully we can do it more often.

Well, we're enjoying continuing to discover our new city.  You've probably heard the saying..."be a tourist in your own city."  Well, that's how we feel.  We may have a local address, local phone numbers, and our kids may go to school here.  But the truth is we are still very much tourists.  And that's okay.  "Das ist gut."
