Geneva & Lausanne, Switzerland - Day 1

Last weekend we took a drive over to the west side of Switzerland to the Geneva area.  Our hotel was in the town of Lausanne, which is just outside Geneva.  The west side of Switzerland is beautiful, more so than the Zurich area in my opinion.  The lake is bigger, the mountains are closer, and the countrysides are more open.  The west side of Switzerland is also entirely French speaking, as it borders France.  So while my German does work, French is widely preferred among locals.

We took the train from Lausanne into Geneva.  Our main reason for the visit was the "Geneva Auto Show," which was a lot of fun.  The car show rivaled the one in Detroit which we always visit, only this one was filled with Italian sports cars, and European companies we've never heard of.  It was really interesting, and the kids had a lot of fun.  We also managed to see some of the city of Geneva, including the famous fountain which erupts out of the lake.  Switzerland has several of these "fountain jets" all over the country, but the one in Geneva is the most famous.  Another fun thing we managed to do was see the new "Lego Movie," which we all loved.
