Hames / Frame Vacation - Day 5

On our last full day in Munising we took a ferry out to Grand Island, which is out in Munising Bay and part of the Hiawatha National Forest. It's an island where you can hike, camp, bike, paddle, fish, whatever. We rented some bikes and explored the island (stopping at a lone cemetery on the way) and biked to an out-of-the-way beach at Trout Bay. It was absolutely beautiful. Clean, soft sands and crystal clear blue waters. It was like something out of Europe or the Caribbean...and best of all we had it practically all to ourselves. The kids had a blast playing in the water and sand and skipping rocks. Both Luke and Megan rode in a bike cart, and Ben and Jackson did great riding their dirt bikes right along with the rest of the us (even up and down some small hills.) We all had a blast at this place. I don't know about everyone else, but for me this was the highlight of the trip. It was so cool finding this quiet little beach on Lake Superior and having it all to ourselves. To reward all the kids for a job well done on our bike ride we celebrated with some ice cream and treats.
