Disney Vacation - Day 1

THURSDAY

Day 1 started early for us, as we tried to get to the Magic Kingdom for the early opening. Jenny had heard that the crowds are a lot less in the mornings, especially early...so we tried to get there as early as we could. The weather was unusually cold, as you'll see from us wearing our coats. But that also helped out with keeping the crowds down so I guess it was worth it. We spent all morning at the Magic Kingdom riding all the rides we thought the kids would like. A lot of the rides we only had to wait 5 minutes or less, so we rode a lot of rides over and over again. We rode the Peter Pan ride a few times, the Buzz Lightyear ride a few times, It's A Small World, Pirates of the Caribbean, Winnie The Pooh, and a lot of rides in and around Fantasy Land. Ben's favorite part was hanging out in Tomorrow Land. Ben loves all things space right now...rockets, shuttles, planets, etc. He loved the rocket-like Astro Orbiter, and driving around in the mini Race Cars. The highlight of the morning though was Ben riding with me on Space Mountain. I told him that Daddy was going to ride Space Mountain and that he was going to go with Mommy. Well...he kept saying he wanted to go with me on Space Mountain. After about 5 minutes of going back and forth I sat him down and told him what the ride was going to be like and he said he still wanted to go. So...they measured him TWICE at the gate, and he BARELY got approval. His head was just brushing up against the height regquirement. So he and I rode Space Mountain...and surprisingly he came out okay and with a big smile on his face. He said it was like riding in a rocket and that it went super fast. I asked him if he wanted to do it again and he said, "Uh...no thank you." But then after that he went with Jenny to go ride Thunder Mountain. We fully expected to "ease" him into riding roller coasters since he had never stepped foot on one. We never expected Space Mountain and Thunder Mountain would be his first two.

After lunch we went back to the hotel for rest time, and afterward we met up with Jenny's mom and stepdad. We stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside resort...on the Disney grounds. It was nice. Later in the evening we all went back to the Magic Kingdom for a dinner inside Cinderella's Castle. The kids had fun seeing Cinderella and some of the mice. Then after dinner we rode a few more rides and called it a day.
