C...C...and Y!

For years now Mat and I have talked about hiking the "C-C-and Y" trail. The trail is about 7 to 8 miles long and takes you to the summits of Mount Chapin, Mount Chiquita, and Mount Ypsilon. So we decided to get up really early on Wednesday morning and make the attempt. We started hiking on the trail at 5:30, right before sunrise. We were the only people on the trail for the longest time, so it was really quiet and peaceful. The weather was absolutely perfect...warm and clear. We reached the saddle of Mount Chapin, and then hiked up to the summit of Mount Chiquita. Then finally it was one final push to the summit we had our eyes on all along...Mount Ypsilon. The mountain gets its name from the "Y" that forms on its face from a glacier. It's 13,500 feet high...the 5th highest in the park. Well...as you can see from the pictures below we made it to the summit. We were really proud of ourselves. It was by far the toughest peak we had tackled...and the highest. As for the view from the top...well...I'll put it this way. I've been all over the park, and I've seen all kinds of views. The view we saw from the top of Mount Ypsilon is by far the most stunning view I've ever seen in Rocky Mountain. In one long never-ending line of summits, you could see everything from Longs Peak all the way to the west and to the end of the Never Summer Range. Simply breathtaking.
