At the start of our first day in Crete the weather was cloudy and chilly, but that didn't stop the kids. Our hotel room was on the beach, so the kids had fun playing around in the sand. The water was too cold to swim, but they didn't mind. Eventually the rain came and it drove us inside, but it was fine. Fortunately, the resort we were staying at had plenty of things to do inside. The kids got to swim in the indoor pool, and we got to play some games and just hang out.
