The next day was another driving day, but this time our drive was only an hour and a half. We drove east toward the small town of Wall, South Dakota. That's where we were overwhelmed by dozens of roadside signs begging us to stop at "Wall Drug," which is a kitchy "western themed" tourist trap. Supposedly it's nationally famous and well known. The kids loved it but I just had to roll my eyes. Inside you're overwhelmed with junky western themed paraphernalia. Eventually we reached our destination - Badlands National Park. We did the scenic drive through the park, stopping on the way for a picnic lunch, and then eventually reached our small cabin where we stayed for the night. These cabins were built back in the 20's, and my Mom even stayed there back in 1956, so she loved staying there again. The park was probably the biggest surprise of the trip. It's incredibly stunning, especially at sunset. It's unlike anything you've ever seen. We'll definitely go back there sometime.
