Lakes and Lighthouses - Day 1

This past weekend for the 4th of July we took a road trip up north to go camping. Our final destination was Hoeft State Park, which is on the northeast tip of the lower peninsula. Though our initial purpose was camping we also stopped at several points along the way to explore Michigan's coastline. We first stopped for lunch at Tawas, which is a quaint touristy town right on the water. Then we stopped at two other state parks, just to scout them out for next time. One is called Harrisville State Park, and the other is called Newaygo State Park. Both parks are on Lake Huron on the northeast side. Later in the day we stopped at the "New Presque Isle Lighthouse," which is the tallest lighthouse on the Great Lakes that you can walk to the top of. It was a lot of fun, and the views were awesome. It says "new" but it was built in 1870. There's an "Old Presque Isle Lighthouse" down the road but we didn't have time to go in. It's too bad because we found out later it's supposedly haunted (people keep seeing the light coming on...and uh...there's no bulb in the lighthouse.)
Anyway, at the end of the day we finally arrived at our campground and set up camp. The campsites once again were all stacked to the rim with camper-trailers and RV's (more on that later) but for the most part they were nice. The park has a beach where we let the kids soak up some sun and splash in the water. Lake Huron is cold, but it's not nearly as cold as Lake Superior. Anyway, as you can see it was a busy day.
