We began our second day with a bike ride along the lake shoreline. Talk about scenery. Ben and Megan had a blast riding along the water's edge watching the waves go by, and of course we had to stop and skip some rocks. Around the middle of the day we packed a picnic lunch and spent a lot of time just soaking up the sun, playing in the water, and building sand castles. Later in the day we toured the Forty Mile Point Lighthouse, and had fun touring the grounds and climbing up to the top. After that we walked down to the beach and checked out the shipwreck of the Joseph S. Fay, a steamer that ran aground by the lighthouse in 1905.
For dinner we returned to camp and tried out our new "pie iron" by making a calzone...and it was awesomeness! Then it was down to the beach again to collect some rocks and splash in the water. After some s'mores for dessert the kids went to bed and I walked down to the beach and gazed at the stars. Unbelievably northern Michigan has a little bit of Alaska to it, where it stays light for a long time. I took a picture of the last remaining dusk over the water, and that picture was taken at 11pm.
