Up in the U.P. - Day 3 ("MINER'S FALLS")

On day 3 we were in Munising, Michigan...about 45 minutes east of Marquette in the upper peninsula. The main attraction in Munising is the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The rocks are actually beautiful cliff faces that border Lake Superior. This was our second visit to the park in the last 2 years or so. It's our own little slice of Colorado and hiking out west, right here in Michigan. Beautiful waterfalls, picturesque scenery, lakes, woods and wilderness, etc. In fact, some of the waterfalls here in the park rival anything you'll see out west. Pretty amazing. The park is also really great for hiking with kids. Lots of 1 mile or so hikes that are all relatively flat.

Anyway, our first hike in the park was to Miner's Falls. The entire hike was about 1.3 miles roundtrip, and this was Ben's first real hike in a national park that he did completely by himself. He did great. He wore his little camelback backpack, ate some snacks, and had a great time. Megan just bounced around in the backpack carrier and pretended she was interested. It was funny. She looked so bored.
