Up in the U.P. - Days 1 and 2

We took a trip up to the U.P. last week. For those of you who don't know the upper peninsula of Michigan is referred to as the "U.P." It's very wooded and scenic, and offers a lot of hiking and outdoor opportunities.

We started our trip off on Saturday and stopped for the night at Mackinac City, which is at the top of the lower peninsula. There we stayed at a hotel and Ben got to swim at a cool pool. The next day we took the boat ferry over to Mackinac Island, a island that is kind of a resort area around here. For those of you who don't know there aren't any cars allowed on the island. The only forms of transportation on the island are bikes, horse carriages, and of course walking. It's kind of got a "back-in-time" theme going on. So on the island we all toured Fort Mackinac, which sits on a bluff overlooking the island. The fort is mostly famous from its War of 1812 days, and for (clearing throat) allowing the British to advance from Canada into America. Anyway, at the fort we got to have lunch at a great overlook spot, tour some old buildings, and even put on some old soldier uniforms.

Here we are starting out our trip in Mackinac City.

Getting ready to board the ferry and head on over to the island.

Hanging out on Mackinac Island, and touring Fort Mackinac.
