The Bees - Game 1

Well, like I said below both kids are playing soccer this fall. This is Megan's very first time playing soccer, and I had promised her I would head coach her team, so we're having fun doing it together. So today was her very first soccer game. Her team is called "The Bees" and today we were the white team. The ages on our team are 3 and 4, so this is soccer at its most basic. At this age it's all about introducing the game to kids and just letting them have fun. Also, both coaches are on the field with the teams "directing traffic" and acting as referees. Half of the kids on the team have older siblings who play (like Megan), so they have a basic idea of what to do. The other half of the team is entirely new to the game, so half the time they just look around and wonder what to do. Anyway, Megan and I are having a great time. I remember coaching this age back when Ben first started playing. It's a very cute age. This is the age when they go the wrong way half the time, and then they'll stop to tell you they saw a dragonfly. But as Ben has gotten older his games have become more competitive, and therefore the parents get pretty emotional (in a positive way of course.) Ben's games are very intense (and most of the time a little stressful for us coaches.) So I'm really enjoying "going back to the basics" with Megan's team. It's been a lot of fun so far.
Anyway, Megan played awesome today in her very first game. She was all over the field...dribbling through people and kicking the ball around. She was a lot more aggressive out there than Ben was at this age. It took Jenny and I completely by surprise. She had one goal and she almost scored a second. Her best friend Abby is also on the team, and the two of them had an absolute blast today.
